current pleasures: tapas and white sangria with mary at the truly fabulous meson sabika (really the bacon-wrapped dates are an aphrodisiac!) watching great films over the past week, especially ang lee's masterpiece, "lust, caution"--based on writer eileen chang's story of the japanese occupied city of shanghai in the forties--wow! listening to new music, especially madonna's catchy new cd, "hard candy"--sweet and dancey! also, reading some wonderful books of poetry right now too--loving richard siken's "crush" and mary jo bang's "elegy" in particular!

this just in: my collection of short stories, "postcards from heartthrob town" has been chosen for a 2008 eric hoffer book award: "notable distinction" --in the newly created category of "memoir." the awards are held annually to honor excellence in books created through independent publishers. what great news for april!
