what a strange playlist the morning. i went from the "priscilla: queen of the desert" soundtrack to michael stipe singing "half a world away" then stopping with half of lisa loeb's "cake and pie" album, before i put on "walking in space" from the original broadway soundtrack from "hair." i had shivers at the line in that song, "how dare they try to end this beauty?" indeed!

full moon friday. actually, it's the second moon in the same month which makes it a blue moon! took a long herbal bath using my new ayurvedic soap: a mix of sandalwood, jasmine and coconut oils in this cool looking mud green bar, i've never felt so clean. i swear i'm tingling everywhere--amazing stuff! i don't know much about ayurveda, but i believe that this philosophical, holistic approach to health comes out of india and employs the idea of balancing the elements within one's body (ether, air, fire, water, and earth). one keeps these elements in check by understanding and nurturing your personal "dosha" or body type. the doshas are: vata, pitta, and kapha . .i'm looking into what "type" i am and it seems i'm a pitta!
meanwhile, the cat is meowing at the moon, tracy chapman is coming through the speakers, and i'm ready to drift into good dreams.

a few of my favorite cheeziest things: peeps when they're stale, the carpenters, old charlie brown and peanuts comics, belinda carlisle, scratch off lotto tickets, "pretty in pink," 70's disco, bubble bath, take out chinese, "the golden girls." "hazel," and "the flying nun" reruns, joan crawford "b movies", shopping at wal-mart, slot machines at a vegas casino, everything oprah, temporary tatoos, vanilla wafers, bargin bin cds, peanut brittle you get at a gas station while on vacation, mistletoe, old navy summer shirts, jane olivor's love songs, lifetime network movies featuring meredith baxter or susan lucci, creame soda, judge judy, waffles with ice cream, bing crosby christmas specials, martha stewart's magazine, the spice girls singing: "viva forever", reese witherspoon as elle woods, enya, souvenir key chains, pumpkin pie, restaurants that have pictures of the food on their menus, all night sing-a-longs, theme parties, mood rings, picnics on a second date, tiny plastic baby dolls you get from a gum machine, kleenex holders, scented garbage bags, glow in the dark dashboard saints on road trips through little towns. . .

went with anthony last night to see michael moore's brilliant documentary "fahrenheit 9/11" and i was simply dumbstruck. how did he manage to gather all of this information and footage? i was absolutely bowled over and in tears for much of the feature and ultimately shocked that there weren't more journalists asking tougher questions during the investigation surrounding the attacks on the world trade center. we went for chinese food afterwards and talked the whole night about the film--in the words of one of my favorite all time singers linda ronstadt: "go see it!"
on a lighter note, the fall 2004 issue of the fabulously new and splashy gay travel magazine "the out traveler" contains a column i wrote on the allure of the best local beachtown, saugatuck, michigan, aptly dubbed "the fire island of the midwest." it's a travel memoir that takes a brief but loving look at the careless, reckless disco days of all night tea parties in the dunes and those little erotic twinges that would run through me like an unstoppable electric current through my loins. loins . .oh my! i'm overdue for a trip back there soon!
